MEET THE PASTOR

Nashville Native, graduate of Whites Creek High School, and former professional basketball player in Finland, Thomas Hunter received a degree in Sociology from Illinois State University as well as a degree in Theology from American Baptist College. In 2003, he obtained his license to preach and is currently the Pastor of Nehemiah Missionary Baptist Church. He is married to Elizabeth Hunter and has two sons. Thomas also serves as the senior consultant for T.E. Hunter Consultant LLC. Prior to joining the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office in 2005, he worked at Carl Albert State in Oklahoma, Tennessee State University, and Miller-Motte College.

Additionally, he worked for the non- profit Project Return, Incorporated. Career with the sheriff’s office began at the Correctional Development Center as a treatment counselor. He also served as the CDC male offender re-entry coordinator, career development track coordinator and currently he serves as the Director of Community Engagement for the Sheriff’s Office. To further his education, Thomas obtained professional certifications from The Pacific Institute and the National Institute of Corrections. As a Pastor, Thomas served as a member of the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship IMF, volunteered at the women’s rescue mission, operates and run a woman’s residential transitional home for ladies and served as the Democratic Executive Committee man for district 8. Thomas is also a graduate and member of the Nashville Institute of Faith and Work.
